This session will go over the basics of the business side of the film and television industry, with practical tips to help writers make more informed decisions at every stage.

  • Common types of contracts and their various provisions
  • Managing your finances as a creative
  • Representation (agents, managers, and attorneys)
  • Overview of the industry and how it operates

Jeff Willis is an entertainment executive with nearly twenty years of experience working for industry-leading companies including Marvel Studios, The Walt Disney Company, Skydance, Blumhouse, Columbia Pictures (Sony), and others. A California native and graduate of the film program at California State University, Long Beach, he has a number of feature film and episodic series credits to his name, including co-writing the 2015 film The Right Girl. He currently works at Marvel Studios where he oversees screen credits and administration for their business affairs department.
